Afternoon birthday tea with friends

One of the hardest things about moving to a new place is not knowing anyone, having to start from scratch in the friends department. And that was certainly one of my concerns before we moved here, despite everyone saying how friendly the people of York are.

Well right from day one, I was blessed in meeting an amazing group of women who have become just the loveliest friends a girl could wish for. I thank my lucky stars that I have them and they have made the transition to our new life oop north not only easy, but bags of fun.

Today one of the lovely ladies had a birthday. Now normally when we get together there is only one drink suitable – pink champagne! But as we still had children to collect from school we thought we’d behave responsibly (how unlike us!) and have a quiet(ish) afternoon tea instead.

We went to our favourite haunt – Cake D’Licious. You can find it on Bootham, just before Clifton Green. Sadly they don’t have a web page yet as it’s a new business and it is so popular that the lovely owner Nicky and her parents who run it with her, are flat out baking cakes and serving tea. No time for websites just yet.

If you love vintage tea cups, individual tea timers to ensure the perfect brew, home baked cakes, scones with jam and cream, and a friendly personal touch throughout, this is the place to go. I don’t even really want to tell people about it because it is our spot and we don’t want to share. But that would be selfish. So I will.

My thanks to my friend, who has recently started blogging over at Bilberry Rose, for taking such gorgeous pics. And Happy Birthday to the birthday girl!

Fab post as always…….looking forward to some pink on Friday :))

  2. Sounds lovely! I’m glad to hear you’ve made some good friends there. I’m wondering how I’m going to form a new social life back in London, where many friends have moved away and/or are dotted round different parts of the city.

Glad you’ve found friends. Makes all the difference.
